6 Easy Ways You Can Become a Volunteer

Giving back to society is an amazing experience. And we’re not talking about offering financial donations, we’re talking about volunteering some of your time. As you give back to the community, you will experience a feeling of peace and purpose.

Not everyone has the time however, but if you do, you should consider becoming a volunteer in any of the six ways listed below.

1. Join a Soup Kitchen

Soup kitchens are often in need of extra hands to help with prepping and making food or serving those in need of a meal. You can volunteer some of your time at your local soup kitchen or food drives by helping those who help others.

2. Join a Litter Picking Event

There are a lot of organisations that are geared to cleaning the environment. Keep an eye on some of the events and volunteer some of your time helping make the world a better place. You’ll be giving a hand to those who need the help and our environment.

3. Volunteer at Old Age Homes

The elderly is often left in nursing homes and forgotten, with no one to reach out to. Volunteer some of your time and make friends with the elderly. You can even offer doing ladies’ hair or nails, or visit for a cup of tea and a chat.

4. Coordinate a Yard Sale for Charity

There are a lot of organisations who run on financial support of the community. If you cannot afford donating money, organise a yard sale and donate the money to a charity of your choice. This can be a local shelter, an orphanage or food drive.

5. Volunteer at a Hospital

If you have some time on hand, get to your local hospital and sign up as a volunteer! You’ll be helping a short-staffed hospital by comforting patients, providing information and work with kids. You’ll also be able to help prepare meals and push wheelchairs.

6. Volunteer at a Shelter

Shelters are more often than not short-staffed. They have little space to house abandoned pets and not enough time to pay attention to all the animals they’ve rescued. You can volunteer to take dogs on walks or pet the cats or even help out with admin.
